Chapter 13,14,15
Reading chapter 13,14,15
Chapter 13 was very interesting learning hoe from 1450-1750
was the age of empire building and how the European colonies were massively
significant at that time really liked the fact that I go to read how old
societies were destroyed and new societies arose. It was interesting to see how
the early modern era shows a new stage for globalization .It really reminded me
of my social class. Social inequality class because we got to learn about globalization
throughout history it’s interesting to read the first stages of globalization. Through
the reading I got to learn how European states and its trading companies really
brought resources. I really enjoyed reading about the demographic collapse of
the Native Americans societies. And how Strayer mentions that the pre-Colombian
population of the western hemisphere was substantial to perhaps 60 to 80 million.
It’s crazy to me how the diseases brought form Europe and Africa killed the Native
Americans almost up to 90 percent of them. It was sad to see how those diseases
really made a huge impact on the Native Americans how at one point they couldn’t
even get or search for their own food. Chapter 13 really had great learning
about the Spanish conquest if the Aztec and Inca empires and how it became the wealthiest
urbanized and populous regions. It was interesting to read how when Europeans sailed
to India for the first time it was certainly no accident. Like Strayer mentions
it was the deliberately, systematic century long Portuguese effort to explore a
sea route to the east. It was interesting to learn that because I know that many
historians have different perspectives when it comes to the explores. I remember
learning about this mostly in elementary school, it’s nice to see history from
a different perspective. It’s crazy how much people had to do in the past. The Europeans
took such route for the desire for tropical spices and cinnamon. Europe was
growing more once again and of course I get to learn how its national monarchies
were leaning how to tax their subjects more effectively. It’s interesting to see
how things from the past were done and how taxes began and the purpose for being
taxed. The growth of military forces and its gunpowder weapons. Learning more
in depth about the Europeans was also fascinating the fact that they directly
engaged in commercial trapping or hunting, but they usually waited for the Indians
to bring the furs or skins initially to their coastal settlement.(Strayer683)
