1) “Hallmark Five: We Embrace the Gift Of Diversity.” In what way does Strayer’s textbook, Ways of the World, reflect Hallmark 5 of the SND de Namur?
I believe that Strayer did embrace the gift of diversity in his book. I feel he stated what he believed and the different topics and beliefs that surface when it come to history. The book itself has a lot of information and different diverse topics. In my opinion, I think he was a very diverse writer when he wrote this particular book. He mentions a lot of different cultures and people of different time eras. Also, the photographs that he provides in the book are very diverse and have a lot of culture behind it. Although Strayer is a male he really did make the book diverse we get to see feminism in the book as well. I just think it’s a book that mentions and describes the different cultures and people that once lived. He doesn’t just focus on certain groups he mentions a little about everything that once was a major part of our world history.
2) Please refer to the learning outcomes in your syllabus for this class. Did the course meet these outcomes? Were any of the outcomes not met? In answering this question, cite specific course activities or assignments that stand out to you.
This particular course was very interesting and fun although I am a shy person and I don’t really like to participate I think the activities that we did allowed me to understand and memorize things better. For example, when we had to write things down with the group. Or talk among each other about the particular topic we were discussing I think oi was able to demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate historical knowledge and reasoning orally and in writing I also think that the quizzes and Xinchen paper really allowed one to prepare for the research paper because we used critical thinking skills and also for the Xinchen Paper it allowed me to prepare for the research paper how you conduct a well written paper. This activity allowed me to become a better writer and comprehend the historical knowledge that we were covering. I also like the fact that we had the chance to communicate with each other and get everyone’s perspectives on the topics and what they thought certain things meant. I feel that’s what helped me learn the outcomes of the course because they would clarify a lot of the things that we would discuss during class.
4) Are we moving into a new historical era? Do the items listed under “Post-Modern” reflect the world we live in today and the future we seem to be working toward? Why or why not?
I personally believed we are moving into a new historical era. Thinks are constantly changing and we have advanced a lot as a society. The rapid influence that the internet has on people we are able to access things easily. Also, globally one can become aware that whatever one person decides to do can have a huge impact on everyone. The growing population, we also see how major companies have a huge influence on things the. Technology has advanced and that has made us change into what we are today. I believe we are entering a new era because we see capitalism and corporation ruling. A Maybe In the new future we are going to be an era of technology and robots. Many people question themselves and think if technology will eventually take the human jobs. Yet I feel we are in the Era where a lot can be done and just by technology taking over I feel that is a big sign that we are moving into a new Era we can change the world globally and economically I feel we have all the right resources and voice to do so. We see government involved in everything and the way things are globally impacted as well as working together in many things can make a difference.
